Based on the previous experience, the paper aims at combining the economy development retrospective of the Middle Urals in the XXI century with a range of perspective tasks to increase the volume and quality of regional investments. Making no claims to comprehensiveness, the author attempts to focus on assessing the impact of the state of fixed assets on the course of investment processes in the Sverdlovsk region in the context of its position change against other RF regions, also considering the prospects and difficulties of investment in various sectors of regional economy.
The research method was comparative analysis. As a source of statistical information the official Rosstat data was used. In terms of time a period from 2000 to the late 2021 was considered (if no data for 2021 yet, 2020 is considered the final year).
Besides documentary sources and official statistics, conclusions from business communication in the author’s official capacity with the heads of enterprises operating in the Sverdlovsk region were used, including those implementing investment projects at regional level.
It is worth mentioning that the problem of reliability and adequacy of macroeconomic indicators is a burning issue not only from the viewpoint of economic theory as such, but also with regard to practical application - for forecasting, planning and projecting economic development of territories.
