Introduction. The ecological condition of a territory is a highly significant factor that plays a key role in assessing the investment potential or quality of life in a municipality. The presence of industrial production is crucial in determining the ecological state of the area. It is essential to maintain a balance between economic and ecological components. On one hand, there must be an economic foundation in the territory, as it ensures social stability in both the long and short term. On the other hand, it is necessary to preserve the natural well-being and comfort of living in the area, which plays a key role in attracting investors and maintaining a positive image of the territory. The main strategy for sustainable development of the territory is the socio-economic development strategy, which establishes a balance between economic interests and ecological considerations.
Materials and Methods. This study used universal methods of scientific knowledge: analysis, synthesis, generalization, and others. During the research, data collection and analysis were conducted, employing statistical analysis methods, as well as text and data analysis methods.
Results and Conclusions. The informational basis of the research consisted of socio-economic development strategies of municipalities in the Sverdlovsk region, where the metallurgical complex has historically been developed, as well as publications in scientific journals in the subject area of the study. This made it possible to achieve the research results and to establish the features of ecological policy formation in municipalities with a traditionally well-developed metallurgical complex.
Discussion. The ecological condition of the environment holds particular significance in municipalities where metallurgical production is traditionally developed. Metallurgy is one of the dirtiest sectors of the economy, with a strong anthropogenic impact. However, the issues related to the influence of the metallurgical complex on the ecological state of the territory are rarely considered within the comprehensive documents regulating the socio-economic development of the area.
